Again with the 6th grade..
Off-topic English conversations have been squelching the learning process. Beginning today, students will speak only in Spanish. I am employing the "Proyecto del Vigilante," which will enable students to hold one another accountable for speaking in Spanish. (See notes from ACTFL convention 2009)
After all.. we really should be speaking in Spanish all the time, anyway. :)

Wildly successful! I feel like I have control of the classroom again, and students are enjoying the challenge of speaking Spanish. Several are extending the "Spanish only" time to include before and after class at their own discretion.
ReplyDeleteNow.. what to do when the project is over? Will the students continue to speak in Spanish on their own, or will they revel in their ability to speak English again? Should I constantly renew the project? Leave a 1-2 week break in between projects? Rotate the project to another grade level? (I don't think I could physically keep track of more than one Vigilante project at a time at this juncture..)
